Our Hermit Crab Art Prints illustrates how the Hermit crab has sadly adapted to the pollution in our oceans. There are over 800 species of hermit crabs worldwide and they can be divided into two groups – aquatic and terrestrial. Despite their name they are not solitary creatures.
Hermit Crab Facts: Hermit crabs have a curled tail with a hook that enables their bodies to fit inside borrowed shells. These shells are essential to protect their soft bodies, with just hard exoskeletons in front. They move to larger shells as they grow. Some attach anemones to their shell and both organisms benefit. The hermit crab will even take the anemone with it when it moves shell.
