Cockatiel Facts: The cockatiel is a small species of parrot that has become very popular as a companion pet. The cockatiels life span can reach up to 25 years, though the standard is 15 years. Male cockatiels make better whistlers than females, because in the wild the male cockatiel uses sounds to attract females. They require quite a bit of sleep each day, about 14 hours!
